Boredom, restlessness, or irritability that results from a lack of environmental stimulation, as from a prolonged stay in a remote, sparsely populated region or a confined indoor area.
很显然,我们属于后一种情况——from a confined indoor area (i.e. air-conditioned rooms)。
1. It possibly originated from the United States at the time when settlers would be snowed in frequently, in remote unsettled lands, with no communication with the outside world.
2. A possible source for this phrase could be that during an outbreak of some disease, people who had a fever were confined to a cabin as a quarantine. Hence the phrase ’Cabin Fever’.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too
You can’t have your cake and eat it too!
这句谚语按字面比较难以理解,但是把have和eat对调后就好办了——You can’t eat your cake and have it too。
A: So I hear you are looking for a celebrity to endorse your product.
B: Yeah. Gotta be a household name like Jackie Chan or Stephen Chow. And he has to be cheap.
A: Duh! You can’t have your cake and eat it too!
如果要表达“鱼与熊掌两者都想得”,将原句稍加改动即可——You want to have your cake and eat it too。

Cast pearls before swine
To Cast pearls before swine的意思是“珍珠头在猪猡前面”。
马太福音》第7章:“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you”.由于to cast pearls efore swine,比喻确切,在后世不断引用中而成为一个国际性成语,常用来表示to offer sth valuable or beautiful to those who can’t appreciate it;to give what is precious to those who are unable to understand its value等意思,含有轻蔑嘲笑色彩。
She read them Shakespeare, but it was casting pearls before swine
I won’t waste good advice on John any more because he never listens to it.I won’t cast pearls before swine.

Bone of The Bone and Flesh of the Flesh
This is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh"(这是我骨中之骨,肉中之肉)。
Bone of The Bone and Flesh of the Flesh常用来比喻血缘上的亲属关系或思想上的团结一致,即as close as flesh and blood;to be inseperately linked to each other等的意思。
eg:Our army is bone of the bone and flesh of the flesh of the people.

The Heel of Achilles 亦作The Achilles’ Heel
因此,the heel of Achilles,也称the Achilles’ heel,常用以表示a weak point in something that is otherwise without fault;the weakest spot等意思。
eg:The shortage of fortitude is his heel of Achilles.
His Achilles’ heel was his pride--he would get very angry if anyone criticized his work.3.Helen of Troy

The Salt of the Earth
The Salt of the Earth一词出自《圣经》,据《新约。 Ye are the salt of the earth:but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? " 在这里,salt用于转义,表示flavor;of the earth即of the world。 这句话在后世不断引用变成了一个典故性成语,转义为the most valuable members of sociey;the finest type of humanity;a person or a group of people having the best character 之意
eg: He does a lot of good jobs and is considered to be the salt of the world.
You all are the salt of the earth. Our hope is placed on you

separate the sheep from the goats区别好坏,分清良莠
And before him shall be gathered all nations:and he shall separate them one from another,as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats”
如:to play the goat=play the fool(瞎胡闹);to get sb’s goat(触动肝火) ;等等。
由此,人们用to separate the sheep from the goats这个成语,来比喻to separate the good from the wicked; to divide good or useful people from bad or useless
eg:We’ll go through the list of members, and separate the sheep from the goats
Have faith in me,please.I can separate the sheep from the goats

Goose bumps
It was so chilly outside. I had goose bumps all over.
That movie is scary as hell. It will definitely give you goose bumps!
When we heard about our school’s victory in that international competition, everybody was having goose bumps. So exciting!

首先,你可以说get up on the wrong side of the bed。
除了get up,还可以说wake up on the wrong side of the bed,意思完全一样。
Don’t mess with Jenny today. She obviously got up on the wrong side of the bed.
Hey, don’t throw swear words at me just because you woke up on the wrong side of the bed!
其次,你可以说have a bad hair day。
I know it’s one of those bad hair days when you feel like the whole world is against you, but try to find a way to cheer yourself up. After all, life goes on, and you still have to finish your work.

My way or the highway
I don’t like my boss. He always has this "my way or the highway" attitude going on. It’s just too much.

如果你的答案是I love you.
I love you with all my heart.
I love you for you.
For the same reason you like me, I like you, too.
My love for you is as deep as the sea.
I’ll love you as long as I live.
If the sun were to rise in the west, I’d never change my mind to love you forever.
You’re the only man/woman I could be happy with.
I love stars, and you’re as beautiful as a star.
If you go away, I’ll be blue. I’ll miss you when you leave.
That reminds me too much of you.
I’m singing a torch song for her.

A: I want some hot chocolate.
B: Me too.
I too (I do,too的省略形式)。
Me and my friends had a blast last night.
My friends and I had a blast last night,但是这么讲的人不会太多,尤其是年轻人,张口闭口就是me and my family,me and my boyfriend, me and my girlfriend,me and George, me and Tina等等等等。我不知道为什么这种用法如此流行,可能美国人的自我观念特别强,总喜欢把自己摆在最前面?(Don’t take it personally, if you are an American.)
反正该用I的地方,native speakers特别喜欢说me,然后把me提到句首。
Me and my friends love traveling together.
Me and my dad are best friends.
比如,你不应说Me love movies,而应说I love movies。

我觉得最贴切的一个就是:biting the hand that feeds you
To "bite the hand that feeds you" is to harm someone who has been helping you. Example: "We treat each of our customers with the greatest respect here. We never bite the hand that feeds us." If you feed an animal and it bites you on the hand you will probably not feed it again. If you forget that a person has been doing something to help you, and you harm the relationship, you are "biting the hand that feeds you". Example: "We have been your best customers for years. And suddenly you treat us so rudely? You should never bite the hand that feeds you."
1. explosion: an explosion, or a sudden rush of air caused by an explosion
Several homes were destroyed by the blast.
2. loud explosive sound: the sound made by an explosion
We were almost deafened by the blasts.
3. good time: an enjoyable occasion of fun and laughter ( slang )
The party was a real blast!
如果你说We had a blast!
1. transitive verb blow something up with explosives: to destroy or break open something using explosives
Rescuers blasted a hole in the rock.
2. transitive verb hit something hard: to strike something with great force ( informal )
She blasted the ball into the net.
3. transitive and intransitive verb make loud noise: to come out with great force or volume, or make something do this ( informal )
4. transitive verb give somebody or something strong criticism: to criticize somebody or something severely ( informal )

On Thursday 7 July 2005, a series of four bomb explosions struck London’s transport system during the morning rush hour. Three London Underground trains were hit almost simultaneously, and a London Bus was hit almost one hour later. 49 are confirmed dead, with 700 injured, of whom about 350 required treatment (22 of these being in a serious or critical condition). It is thought that the confirmed death toll will be nearer 70 or 80, as the recovery operation is still ongoing in the deep tunnels. About 30 people have been named as missing.
The incidents led to the complete shutdown of the London Underground network and the closure of many roads near the affected stations. Mainline train services into many London stations terminated outside the city for most of the day, and the city’s bus network was shut down in the central zone (Zone 1).
The bombers have not yet been identified but Metropolitan Police Service Commissioner Sir Ian Blair has said that they were most likely part of a terrorist cell based in the UK, possibly affiliated to al-Qaeda. The bombings came while the UK hosted the first full day of the 31st G8 summit at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, and a day after London was chosen to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.
The incident was the deadliest single act of terrorism in the United Kingdom since the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie (in which 270 people died).

Anagrams are words or phrases made by mixing up the letters of other words or phrases, e.g. THE EYES is an anagram of THEY SEE.
Schoolmaster :The classroom
Debit card : Bad credit
Mother-in-law : Woman Hitler
Eleven plus two : Twelve plus one
Dormitory : Dirty room
Gainly Laying
Admirer Married
Sadder Dreads
Protectional Lactoprotein
Orchestra Carthorse
Creative Reactive
Deductions Discounted
Listen Silent
Replays Parsley
Crudities Diuretics
George Bush He bugs Gore.
President Bush of the USA A fresh one, but he’s stupid。
Monica Lewinsky Nice silky woman.

popped up:when things pop up, they happen with a lot of warning or work; they are surprises
USE
Last weekend, I had to cancel a date with a girlfriend because something popped up at the last minute. I felt terrible.
We had been planning on getting together for a long time and I felt so guilty to have to cancel. The thing that popped up is that my car had some problems.
“I am so sorry to be late. Something popped up and I had to take care of it.”
“Our band got a call from a label last week. They offered to help us make a new CD! I can’t believe that opportunity just popped up!”
"fed up":when you are fed up with something, you are sick of it and don’t want to do it any more
FOR EXAMPLE:
“I am fed up with you! You never want to do anything or go anywhere.”
“You could use a break. It looks like you are fed up with having visitors.”
“He’ll be ok. He has had a long day at work and is fed up with dealing with problems.”

它的定义:haughty attitude: an attitude of arrogance and haughty disregard for others. 形容某人骄傲蛮横,可以说be on one’s high horse或get on one’s high horse。比如:
I can’t stand Peter. He’s always on his high horse.
The minute you start arguing, you get on your high horse. You just can’t help yourself, can you?
You know I’m right! Get off your high horse and admit your mistake!

seven-year itch:inclination toward sexual infidelity: an inclination toward sexual infidelity, popularly believed to begin after seven years of marriage ( informal )。
英语里这种人造合成词也很多比如caughed(cry and laugh at the same time), 这种词超级流行而且表意功能强大,说起来显得很COOL.
ginormous (adj): bigger than gigantic and bigger than enormous
confuzzled (adj): confused and puzzled at the same time
chillax (v): chill out/relax, hang out with friends
cognitive displaysia (n): the feeling you have before you even leave the house that you are going to forget something and not remember it until you’re on the highway
phonecrastinate (v): to put off answering the phone until caller ID displays the incoming name and number
It is so weird, I can’t for the life of me remember his/her number!
今天和你分享的就是这个for the life of me (her/him/you), 再来两个例句:
Michelle for the life of her can’t understand why Jim is so crazy about soccer.
You can quit it if you for the life of you can’t remember English words.

The celebration of Father’s Day was inspired by the success of Mother’s Day (which was observed nationally for the first time in 1914). Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, was listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in church in 1909 and decided that fathers deserved a similar day of recognition. Her father, a Civil War veteran, raised Sonora and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth. She circulated a petition suggesting the third Sunday in June (the month in which her father was born) and urging people to wear a rose on that day in honor of their fathers. The first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910. It was not until 1966, under President Lyndon B. Johnson, that it was proclaimed a national holiday and observance of this on the third Sunday in June was made a law in 1972.
Just as the carnation became a symbol of Mother’s Day, the rose was suggested and became connected to Father’s Day. Some observe the custom of wearing a red rose to indicate that one’s father is living or a white rose to indicate that he is deceased. The flower and plant rose comes from a shrub of the genus Rosa. Red is the most frequent color, but roses are also white, yellow, pink, and various shades of peach and pink. The Old English form rose came from Latin rosa, which may have been an adoption of the Greek word rhodon, "rose." -
bule is for boys and pink is for girls. Since all babies look alike, boys are usually dressed in blue and girls in pink simply to identify the sex. In ancient times, girl babieswere regarded as inferior to boy babies, so the colour blue, which was believed to have the power to ward off evil spirits, was reserved exclusively for the boys. The color pink was introduced for babby girls in accordance with a legendary European tradition that suggested girls were born inside a pink rose.
